Fixed Calipers

Fixed calipers, as the name implies, don't move, but rather have pistons arranged on opposing sides of the rotor.

Floating Calipers

Floating calipers move in and out relative to the rotor and have one or two pistons only on the inboard side of the rotor.

Single-piston floating calipers

They have pistons on only one side, while the other side is allowed to float or slide to ensure even pressure distribution on both sides of the brake disc during braking

Multi-piston calipers

This type of caliper has multiple pistons on each side of the brake disc, usually arranged in a staggered or opposing configuration.

Caliper principle

When the front caliper rotates the brake disc forward while the vehicle is moving forward, the force generated by the caliper when it engages the brake disc is upward. This upward force combined with a downward force (the vehicle's own gravity) makes it easier for the front of the vehicle to nod or push when braking.

The rear calipers are the opposite. When the brake disc moves forward, the rear calipers use the opposite downward force to bite the brake disc, causing the front of the car to move downward. The calipers also exert downward force, and two forces in the same direction allow the front of the car to be balanced.
